It feels like we only started the other day and now here we are at the end of another term! Time has flown by and what an incredible journey it has been so far in Year 3.

This term, Year 3 embarked on an exciting historical adventure exploring life from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. Our big question was:

How did people’s lives change between the Stone Age and Iron Age?

Throughout the term, the children investigated fascinating topics across the wider curriculum:

  • History: We learned about the three Stone Age periods (Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic), the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age. Children explored how humans evolved from hunter-gatherers to farmers, studied extinct megafauna like mammoths and discovered how technological advancements such as flint tools and bronze axes transformed life. We also examined prehistoric settlements and discussed the agricultural revolution and its impact on population growth and land use.
  • Geography: Using maps and atlases, children located prehistoric sites in the UK and compared how settlements changed over time.
  • Science: Our focus was on rocks and soils. Children classified rocks by their properties, explored how soils are formed.
  • Computing: The children became animators! They created stop-motion animations linked to our topic.
  • French: We learned to name animals, use articles correctly, and even say “I am” as different animals in French.
  • RE & PSHE: We explored why the Bible is important to Christians and discussed themes of fairness, kindness, and friendship through Philosophy for Children (P4C).
  • Music: From singing folk songs to creating rhythms and patterns, the children expressed creativity while connecting to historical themes.

We also enjoyed a trip to the Natural History Museum, which brought our learning to life!

Working on Kindness and Honesty

This term, we have really focused on being kind and honest in everything we do. To celebrate kindness, we introduced our very own Kindness Tower, which grows taller every time someone shows kindness. It’s been amazing to see how high it has already reached. I wonder how tall it will be by the end of the year!

Term Reflection Videos

We’ve captured some wonderful moments from this term in our reflection videos. These show the children’s hard work, creativity and enthusiasm as they answered our big question and showcased their projects.

As part of our reflection, we asked the children:
What have you enjoyed most this term?
What has been the most memorable experience?
What would you like to improve on?

Their responses were thoughtful and inspiring, showing how much they have grown as learners and how excited they are to keep improving in the new year.

A Festive Finish

To celebrate all our achievements, the children ended the term with a Christmas party full of joy, laughter and festive cheer!

Looking Ahead

As we wrap up this exciting term, we’re proud of everything we’ve learned and the kindness we’ve shown. Our Kindness Tower is growing taller every day and we can’t wait to see how high it will reach in the new year.

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

That’s the message we’ll carry forward as we continue learning, helping each other and making our classroom a place filled with honesty, kindness and joy.

Have a lovely festive season!
