In our recent computing lessons, Year 2 explored how music can make us feel. We listened to different pieces and talked about the emotions they created. Some music sounded happy, some felt calm, and some made us feel excited. The children used adjectives to describe what they heard and shared their own opinions about what they liked or didn’t like. They enjoyed noticing differences in music and thinking about how sound can change our feelings.

We also explored rhythms and patterns. The children discovered that music often repeats ideas, just like patterns we see in coding or algorithms. They created their own rhythm patterns, played instruments while keeping a steady beat, and talked about how humans create music using voices, bodies, and instruments. They enjoyed recognising patterns in music and experimenting with different sounds to see how patterns could change or repeat.

Year 2 showed wonderful creativity and enthusiasm throughout the lessons. They learned that music can influence how we feel, that adjectives help us describe what we hear, and that rhythms and patterns connect closely to the computing skills we use in class.
