In 1666, a big fire started in London. We learned that it started in Thomas Farriner’s bakery when he forgot to turn off the oven, and it spread because the wooden buildings were close together. Also, London did not have a fire service. The fire destroyed many buildings including St Paul’s Cathedral, and it was difficult to stop.

London used to be smaller than it is now. In geography, we used a map of old London to show where the fire spread. The fire began on Pudding Lane. By the end, most of old London was in the fire. In our activity, we also showed where these landmarks are: St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, London Bridge and the River Thames.
Our maps helped us see where the fire spread. The fire was so hard to stop, and it changed London forever!
