Last week Year six went off to Genesis Cinema in Stepney, not to enjoy a film, but to hear all about new books coming out from local authors.
We were in the big screen with several other schools from Tower Hamlets. We heard from author MG Leonard about her book series the Time Keys, where a group of school friends use music to travel in time to weird and wonderful places in history. The extract we heard about the ancient Roman colloseum was especially fascinating. Did you know there was a certain kind of gladiator whose speciality was animals, and that a lot of the gladiator shows were performances (like modern WWE)?
It was also inspiring to hear about how MG Leonard gathered ideas for her writing through her love for travelling, trains, birdwatching and her pet stag beetle! It was the perfect event for a rainy afternoon of storytelling and inspiration, and I’m sure many of our future authors will look back on it fondly…
