Our Year 5 school journeys have got off to a GREAT start today with a very exciting first day for all in Kahlo class. After leaving London on our deluxe coach, we had an exciting (and travel sick free!) journey to Suffolk thanks to our driver, Tim.

Just before midday, we arrived at Berry Farm to meet Farmer Sam, Mark and Deirdre who all work on the farm as volunteers. The farm is a co-operative and provides lots of fresh organic produce to the locals in Suffolk through a weekly veggie box delivery. We enjoyed our packed lunch before taking a tour of the farm, inspecting the irrigation systems and playing in the grass. Farmer Mark also encouraged us to pick some of the fresh vegetables & fruit and try it ourselves! The children picked & ate strawberries, fresh peas (“so much fresher than frozen peas!”), broad beans, kale and more.

After lunch we split into two groups to do some activities. One group got to spend time with Renata from Country Trust who explored all the amazing herbs in the farm’s garden and we used our senses to discuss the smells and tastes we could experience. Did you know that you can eat some flowers?! Lots of children were brave and tried a variety of plants.

Next the children were invited to make a seedling pot using soil and their choice of herbs or peas/beans in a plant pot. The pots will be kept save and brought back with us to London to grow in our homes!

After all that excitement, we were ready to grab our things and enjoy a lovely walk through the fields to get to our accommodation at Ringsfield Hall. Read the next blog to see all about the wonderful home we are staying in!
