This term, we have been learning about the rich history of immigration in Tower Hamlets. We have learned about the difference between immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. About the many groups of people that have moved to the area and the amazing contributions they have brought. We’ve also investigated our own experiences with immigrations through our family stories.

We have been looking at a book called The Arrival, by Shaun Tan. It’s a beautiful graphic novel that depicts the immigration journey of a man, who has to leave his wife and child to find a better life for them all.

We wrote letters, as the man, to his child, and folded them into delicate birds so that they could fly their way home.
We also wrote setting descriptions based on scenes from the book.
