The Lansbury Lawrence Arts Council had a trip over to Chrisp Street Market this morning. We met artist, Shane Waltener. Shane’s work draws inspiration from craft traditions and processes. Today we learned about Flax and how the fibres of the plant can be twisted into cordage. Did you know in the past Flax was widely grown in England and used to weave fabric, which in turn was used to make clothes. The Latin name for Flax is Linum, which means line. We created lots of lines today! We had a lot of fun making a collaborative web of cordage made from yarn. We brought some flax seeds back to school to plant in our garden.
