OUR SCHOOL TRIP by Finley

Today we went to the National Maritime Museum. We were learning about explorers, that’s our topic. One of the rooms we went to was the polar room. It was about the arctic.

There were lots of artifacts like a scuba helmet, paintings, coins and more. The scuba helmet was made of copper and so was the coin and the paintings were old. It was awesome! My favorite part was the interactive bits like you could wear the gloves and masks.

I was fascinated by the real life ship in the museum. We were like explorers around the exhibits. It was amazing what we saw. It was like we were in another world!

The explorers we mainly focused on were Matthew Henson and Ernest Shackleton.
Matthew Henson was a part of the crew that was the first to the Atlantic ocean.

We were like explorers in all of the rooms looking at everything, and reading the labels to see what they were. My other favorite thing was a little lego build of explorers in the north pole.

Another thing was in the Antarctic room there was a reflection section where you could reflect on what you saw and learnt. It was also a place to sit and relax.

Polar room

At the national Maritime museum, first we went to the first floor called the polar room and we found lots of artifacts. We found an Ernest Shackleton picture and more but the most interesting thing I found was the coin that was made lots of years ago and it was made of bronze . Another thing that was interesting was a very luxury chair that was made of gold fabric and cotton .

Pacific world

On the second floor, called the pacific world ,there was a very cool map but there were some countries missing because those countries (Australia and North and South America) were not discovered yet .

Fun fact

The map was made in the 1500s and some countries were spelt incorrectly because people spelt things differently back in the days such as ‘Groneland’ .

Sea world

On the third floor called the sea world there was a helmet that you can use to go underwater called a scuba diving helmet .It was made out of copper and metal .

Did you know?

Did you know that Ernest Shackleton was the first person to reach the South pole .

Today we went to the joyful National Maritime Museum and we found out that American explorers Matthew Henson claimed to have reached the North pole in 1909. We found old coins from the past and we found scuba diving helmets which were made of copper and used underwater.

We also found Matthew Henson clothes that he used and we saw a copy of the gloves which Matthew used while going to the north pole. We got to try the copy of the gloves on which I found really comfortable.

Plus we got to try on these big snow goggles which when we put it on everything was green in our vision which was fun.

We went to a reflection room where we got to think about the things we did and saw and to have a break plus there were sofas which felt comfortable and books to read.

We saw a small telescope which we got to peek in which I saw a white dot like a moon which was very interesting.

We also found copies of ships around the world and more amazing things. My favourite part is when we got to try on the clothes and when we got to explore the museum to write facts, also to draw some of the objects and to try on the goggles which was very joyful!

Today we went to the national maritime museum. We went into the polar room and we found Ernest Shackleton’s picture and boat. But the most amazing and interesting thing about the trip is that we found a coin that was made long long ago in the olden days. Another thing that we found interesting was we found a chair made out of gold and fabric .

The next floor was called the Pacific room. There was an interesting map that was made in 1500. There were different country names in the olden days like ironland and northern
but they were never discovered.

Sea world
We saw a helmet. It was dirty and the color was brown, and the helmet can be used to go underwater. The helmet was called the scuba diving helmet and also it was made of copper and metal.

Polar room
We went to the national maritime museum. First we went to the room where we learnt about explorers. An interesting fact about the first room was the animals in the arctic were well adapted.

Pacific encounters
In the second room I saw a gigantic ship. I also heard that the weather could get very cold but they wore less clothes to stop them sweating too much. There were lots of videos and I saw some statues of arctic animals. I also saw small figures and boats. We read about Ernest Shackleton.

Sea world
In the third room I read that inuit hunt animals like seals, whales and penguins were often used as food and clothes. We read about explorers. I saw telescopes that showed moons and germs. I saw some portraits of the olden
days.
