This week the children have been diving into the icy world of the Arctic, discovering the animals that call this chilly habitat home. Through creative activities, sensory exploration, and music, they’ve been building their understanding in a way that feels playful and exciting.

Singing About Arctic Animals

To bring everything together, we’ve also been learning a song all about different Arctic animals. The children have loved joining in with the actions and repeating the animal names. Music has been a wonderful way to reinforce their learning and help them remember the creatures we’ve been exploring.

Polar Bear Printing Fun

Our first adventure took us to the land of polar bears. Using white paint and soft pom poms, the children experimented with stamping to create big, fluffy circles — the perfect shape for a polar bear’s face. Once the paint dried, they added their own details with a black pen, carefully drawing noses, eyes, and smiley mouths. Each bear had its own personality, and the children were so proud of their creations.

Building Shape Penguins

Next, we explored penguins using simple shapes. The children used black ovals for the body, orange squares for the feet, and orange triangles for the beaks. It was a brilliant opportunity to talk about shapes, colours, and how we can combine them to make something new. The finished penguins looked fantastic — a whole colony ready for the Arctic chill.
