We have been busy exploring the wonderful world of minibeasts during our learning time! The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm as they discovered that minibeasts come in many different shapes, sizes and colours, and live in a variety of habitats.
We introduced new vocabulary such as exoskeleton (a hard outer covering) and talked about how some minibeasts have different numbers of legs and wings. The children enjoyed investigating closely during provision, carefully observing minibeasts and discussing what they noticed.
Our classroom turned into a Minibeast Lab, where the children used magnifying glasses to look closely at tiny creatures. We also had lots of fun “rescuing” minibeasts hidden in the sand using sieves and tweezers, helping to develop our fine motor skills.
Creativity came alive as we made our own spiders to hang up, and we went on an exciting minibeast hunt to explore different habitats. During our hunt, we were delighted to find a snail and a butterfly!
It has been wonderful to see the children observing, questioning and caring for the tiny creatures around them. Well done, Reception!
