Day 1 at South Downs!

Our Year 5 children arrived safely at the South Downs and were full of excitement as their adventure began.

The day started with an exploration of Tablehurst Farm, where the children met a range of animals including chicks, pigs and cows. They were fascinated by learning how cows are milked and how milk makes its journey from the farm to our tables. The children also learned about the differences between dairy cows and Jersey cows, asking thoughtful and curious questions throughout.

After enjoying lunch, the children were given the opportunity to reflect using all five senses. They thought carefully about what they had seen, the sounds they had heard around the farm, the smells they had noticed, the textures they had felt, and the tastes they had experienced during the day.

In the afternoon, the children explored the polytunnels, where they saw tomatoes, bell peppers and aubergines growing. They even tasted fresh, home-grown basil, which was a real highlight for many. They also learned about weeding carrots and the importance of caring for crops. Meeting the chicks up close was another memorable part of the day.

Before dinner, the children enjoyed some well-earned downtime, choosing to play board games with friends or head outside for a game of football. It was lovely to see everyone relaxing, socialising and making the most of the beautiful surroundings.

Later, the children unpacked, explored their rooms and settled in well. For dinner, they enjoyed a choice of pasta or jacket potato, followed by a sweet treat for dessert: either a brownie sundae or a choc ice. After showers and some time to unwind, everyone was ready for bed.

The children have had a fantastic first day, full of learning, exploration and fun. We are all looking forward to another exciting day of activities tomorrow! 🌟🚜🐄🌱

Catch you on the next update tomorrow!
