Year 5 are exploring the topic of space this term. This afternoon, we used dance to understand what it would be like to be an astronaut.

There is no gravity in space so we used our imaginations and bodies to see how it would feel to move in space without gravity. We moved slowly, miming floating. We moved with control and balance.

Astronauts are very fit and healthy so we tested our fitness at astronaut bootcamp with a series of squats, lunges, burpees, star jumps, burpees and a plank finisher. All astronauts were strong and energised!

Finally, we tested out our slow and mindful breathing in our spacesuit helmets.

Once we had tried and tested different movements, the children got creative by putting their own sequence together.

Thank you to Akram Khan Company for supporting us with dance!
