On Friday, pupils from Peggy Angus and Lichtenstein Class enjoyed an exciting trip to the Southbank Centre to visit a special exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Festival of Britain.
Earlier this year, both classes had the opportunity to work with professional poets and create their own poems. As part of the project, one line from each class was selected to be displayed around the Southbank Centre for visitors to discover.
When we arrived, we were given a mission: to find our class’s chosen line. Everyone eagerly began searching the exhibition displays. After lots of careful looking, Lichtenstein Class were the first to find their line, followed shortly afterwards by Peggy Angus Class. It was a proud and exciting moment to see our words featured in such a famous cultural venue.
After completing our challenge, we joined pupils from several other schools for a special performance linked to the project. Unfortunately, we only had time to watch the first act, but we were very fortunate to see poet and broadcaster Lemn Sissay perform. His powerful words and engaging performance captivated the audience and provided an inspiring end to our visit.
The trip was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to celebrate their creativity, experience live poetry and see how their own writing had become part of a public exhibition. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and represented the school so well.
