Year 2 have had such an exciting term learning all about different habitats and the animals that live in them. We’ve been exploring how every creature needs the right home to stay safe, find food, and grow.

The children also learned that all habitats must provide four essential things for survival: food, water, air, and shelter.

To bring our learning to life, the children worked with their parents and carers to design and build their very own habitats at home. It was such a joy to see families collaborating, sharing ideas, and getting creative with natural materials, recycled items, and plenty of imagination throughout this project.

Take a closer look of our lovely habitats…

Thank you so much to all the parents who put time and creativity into the children’s home habitat projects. It was wonderful to see how much care went into each one, and the children were so proud to share their work with the class.
The children took part in gardening sessions with Joe, where they learned all about microhabitats.

They explored the tiny living spaces found in soil, under logs, and around plants, discovering how different creatures choose the perfect spot to live and thrive.

On another week, children became investigators as they walked around the school grounds, tallying the different things they could find in their local habitat. They spotted trees, birds, ants and many other living things, carefully recording each one on their tally charts.

Back in the classroom, they used their data to create bar graphs, learning how scientists use charts to compare information and spot patterns. Some noticed it was cold so, ants must’ve been hiding or sleeping. They talked about how they see more ants in the hotter months compared to now. Take a look at their data!

They also drew their own habitats and included animals and plants that are suited to those environments, such as a polar bear living in a cold climate.
Thank you for reading our blog, we hope you have a lovely break!
