We’ve had such an exciting time exploring Chinese New Year and celebrating the Year of the Horse. The children began the week, with making a bright, colourful dragon head and had a go at some lively dragon dancing around the room. They also made their own zig‑zag dragons by colouring the head and tail, folding the body, and sticking everything onto straws so they could make them dance.
Fortune cookies were a big hit, and the children showed great cutting skills while making their own paper lanterns. In the home corner, they tried using chopsticks with rice, and we all enjoyed tasting some fortune cookies for snack. Outside, the fun carried on as we acted out the story of the Great Race — everyone took turns being different animals and raced to see who would reach the finish line first.
It’s been such a fun, hands‑on way to learn about another culture through play, creativity, food, and stories — and our little horses have loved every minute of it.
