Carle Class has been absolutely buzzing this week as we explored the story The Very Greedy Bee. The children loved following the greedy bee’s adventure and talking about the importance of kindness, sharing, and thinking about others. The story set the perfect stage for a creative, hands‑on art session that brought bees and honeycombs to life in our classroom.
Honeycomb Printing with Bubble Wrap
To begin our artwork, the children used bubble wrap as a printing tool to create textured honeycomb backgrounds. They painted the raised bubbles with golden yellow paint and pressed them onto their paper, revealing a beautiful honeycomb pattern. This activity strengthened fine motor skills as children gripped brushes, controlled their stamping, and experimented with pressure and repetition.
Designing Our Busy Bees
Next came the bees themselves. The children stamped yellow circles to form the bee bodies, then added black stripes and details using black pens. Each bee had its own personality — some zooming, some resting, some exploring the honeycomb. This step encouraged careful mark‑making and attention to detail, further supporting fine motor development.
