In Year 2, we have been very creative in our learning this week! In Art, we explored nature and used the recently-celebrated Attenborough Day as our inspiration to look closely at the wonder of plants before using clay to sculpt our own creations. The children carefully shaped clay tablets, then used different tools to add texture and detail to make them look realistic. It helped us to recognise the patterns and details we can see in the natural world around us once we pause to take a closer look.

In Design & Technology, we became designers and mini engineers by planning, constructing and evaluating our own vehicles. We drew our ideas first, chose materials carefully, and then built our vehicles remembering the all-important axles to connect each pair of wheels so the vehicle could move. After testing the creations, the children talked about what worked well and what they could improve next time.

The children’s creativity has been impressive!

This week’s class bloggers are Hana, Zuhayr and Marayam, and they would like to share a little more about our week:

This week, we finished our stories about a magical object. On Thursday we published them by making a fantastic book and we took them home on Friday. I think we did lots of writing, but it was good. We did the front covers for our books and some illustrations inside too, then we put it all together. We will show our stories to our families at home.

When we did art with the clay, our hands got messy, but we washed them afterwards. The patterns we created looked nice, and they are drying on the windowsill because that is the place that gets the most sunlight.

Our science experiment is also on the windowsill. We are testing the best conditions to grow healthy plants. Some plant pots are in the cupboard so they get no light.

Next week is the last week of the half-term. I wonder what we are doing in maths next. I would like to learn even more about telling the time.
