This week our class enjoyed a wonderful autumn walk to Bartlett Park as part of our geography topic. The children explored what happens to trees in autumn and linked their discoveries to our literacy book, Eco Girl, which celebrates caring for the natural world.

During our walk, the children noticed the leaves changing colour as the trees begin to slow down for winter. They saw leaves falling, felt the crisp autumn air, and spotted other signs of the season. Many enjoyed collecting leaves and comparing the different shapes and colours. Back in class, we will use our walk to inspire autumn writing, artwork, new geography vocabulary, and conversations about caring for our planet in science.

As Autumn is all about change — leaves falling, temperatures dropping and the days getting shorter, this can naturally lead to discussions about the passage of time — our philosophical chats in Philosophy 4 Children this half-term will give us the opportunity to explore how and why everything changes or, perhaps, whether it really does at all!

A big thank you to our parents who joined us on our trip! If you have time, a family autumn walk is a lovely way to keep the learning going and let your child share what they’ve discovered.
