In our recent music lesson, Delaunay logged into an online session hosted by the Royal Ballet and Opera for a discovery of rhythm, sound and collaboration as we excitedly dived into the world of opera.
From the start, the children found the session very special, and it felt like we were being invited behind the curtain of a world we rarely get to see. The exploration of opera was both simple and magical, and the children learnt how stories, music and emotion can intertwine.
The RBO presenters made everything come alive with their passion, helping us understand how opera can speak to us all and take us on a musical journey. We listened closely, noticing how each note carried feeling and meaning across the screen, and there were lots of moments when our music, actions and smiles filled the classroom.
By the end, we left inspired, a little more curious and with a new appreciation for the beauty of opera – thanks RBO.
Delaunay even used the lesson to inspire a philosophical discussion as we asked ourselves:
Can different people imagine different stories when they hear the same music?
