This week, our Year Two children continued their journey into the world of philosophy. We started by reminding ourselves what philosophy means — the love of wisdom — and talked about how philosophers ask big questions that don’t always have easy answers.

We also explored what makes a question philosophical: Is it a question that makes you think deeply? One that has more than one answer? Or one that doesn’t have a right or wrong answer at all? The children impressed us with their curiosity and thoughtful ideas, reflecting on what they know from earlier years at Lansbury Lawrence.

Then it was their turn; they created their own philosophical questions, before we shared our final thoughts on the concept of good-bad-evil. It was wonderful to see their young minds working through such big ideas with care and imagination.

We use P4C, (Philosophy for Children) in our classroom to help foster deeper thought and discussion as our children think, talk, and learn together.
