In photography club we looked at the story of the Cottingly Fairies. In 1917 two little girls called Elsie and Frances were playing with a camera, they decided to create some fairies to take photos of but because photography was so new people had not realised you could use it to make things up. The little girls sold their photos to the media claiming they were real fairies… and to this day they still claim one was not a lie.

One of Elsie and Frances’ photos of fairies.

In photography club we decided to see if we could make some trick photographs without using modern technology to edit our pictures. We cut out some fairies and dinosaurs and hid them around the secret garden. We really enjoyed this and are going to build on this idea further over the next few weeks.

We hope you are as excited as we are about our photography journey.
