Dear Parents and Carers

Today we commemorated 100 years since Armistice through a moving assembly led by year 6. The whole school sang the song, ‘Remember’, which they had been learning especially for this occasion in their weekly singing sessions with Mr Haswell. Melissa, who works in our school office and whose great grandfather died in the First World War, was our special guest at the assembly. Please do watch the video below to hear how well year 6 and the whole school did to mark this important moment in history.

Year 5 at the Science Museum

This week, Year 5 went on a trip to the Science Museum in Central London! We are learning all about S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) this term, so we went to the museum to learn more about our topic. When we arrived, we got to take part in a workshop called ‘Engineering Live’. We watched Lauren perform lots of different experiments. Then, we were taken to a different part of the museum and got to construct catapults. We got to meet six engineers, who helped us make them. After lunch, we got to explore other parts of the museum. We went to two different exhibits called ‘Engineer Your Future’ and ‘Who am I?”.

Learning to code at the Apple store

This week, Kahlo class visited the Apple Store in Westfield for a hands-on with coding and robots! When we arrived, we met JR who helped us move George around a table by giving him commands: move forward 5 steps, turn left… Then we used iPads to play Swift – a coding app which allows you to move characters through challenging levels using code.

“I have never played on swift before but I really enjoyed it ”  Rayhan

After Swift, the team showed us the Sphero robots which are controlled using the EDU app on iPads. The robot is a sphere and can move in any direction at any speed! Our challenge was to program the robot to move along a blue tape line: controlling the duration, direction and speed of each roll.

Apple run similar workshops at the weekends for families (for free), and we definitely want to go back!

Well Done to our Learners of the Week!
