Dear Parents and Carers

This week we had a photographer in from Tate who photographed both Hepworth and Hokusai classes as part of an exciting Year 3 Project by artist and film director, Steve McQueen. McQueen is hoping to capture most of the year 3 classes from across London, and display thousands of class photographs at Tate Britain next year. Displayed together, these photographs will be a type of ‘time capsule’, capturing an important moment of a child’s time in education and celebrating our diversity within London. We are very proud to be involved, and can’t wait to go and visit the exhibition next year!

Year 3 Project

Before we had our class photograph taken we took part in drama warm up games, to make us relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. It was lots of fun mirroring our partners and working together. It was also fun to learn how digital photographs were taken; we enjoyed being the photographer’s assistants!

International Day

Don’t forget next Tuesday 25th September is our International Day. School will closing earlier than usual, at 2.45pm, as we have the Mayor of Tower Hamlets visiting to officially open the Edible Playground and our new nursery playground. Please do bring a dish of international food to share, and send your child to school in traditional clothing, representing their culture.

Edible Playground

Every Monday and Wednesday, year 5 have been meeting with our gardener, Joe, to lend a helping hand.

Our activities include:

  1. composting dead plants to make new soil
  2. collecting seeds so we can plant new plants next year
  3. harvesting fruit and vegetables to sell to parents.
  4. planting new beetroot plants

We have already sold some of our fresh, organic produce at the end of day. You can explore the Edible Garden yourself at our International Day celebration next Tuesday afternoon.

Well done to our Learners and Classmates of the Week!

Rewarding Kahlo Class

This week, Kahlo Class celebrated being the FIRST class to win our new weekly Class Token competition. Classes earn tokens whenever adults see children following our school rules excellently:

  1. Being Safe
  2. Being Respectful
  3. Being Committed

As a reward, Kahlo Class got to visit the staff room (!!!) to enjoy hot chocolate and read their books. Kahlo Class received 8 tokens from different teachers for various excellent reasons.
