Dear Parents and Carers
It’s been a busy week here at Lansbury Lawrence, with children getting stuck in to their learning. Year 6 started their Parliament learning theme with a trip to the Houses of Parliament, where they got to meet our local MP, Jim Fitzpatrick. Year 5 have begun the year with being responsible for looking after our Edible Garden, under the expert guidance of our new school gardener, Joe. Please do visit the garden on Mondays and Wednesdays after school, where you may see Joe and year 5 selling some of the produce they have harvested – this week there was delicious spinach and carrots being sold. We also won an exciting award…
Artskickers Awards 2018
The Artskickers Awards celebrate the arts in East London, the award ceremony was last night, and we are proud to announce that we won the Future Artist (5-12) category. We were nominated for the award from our Room for Art film which tells the story of our collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery and architects Matt+Fiona. The judges recognised that our children were designing a space for our whole community to use, and the value our school puts on the arts. Madeeha was one of the Future Artists who worked on the project, and she went on stage to collect this amazing award. We received a prize of vouchers for art materials, which will help all of our future artists across the school.
Year 6 at the Houses of Parliament
“On this trip we learned all about the Houses of Parliament. Did you know that the Queen is not allowed to go in to the House of Commons because she is Royal? There is a room for the Queen in the Houses of Parliament though. When people are debating you have to be very quiet – you can’t make any noise at all!!!”
